Proximity Crystal 20 is one of the lightest options at the crystal malt candy shop, adding very gentle caramel sweetness and soft roundness with little color contribution.

Flavor/Aroma

  • Subtle toffee and light caramel notes
  • Soft, honey-like grain sweetness

Beer Interplay 

  • Brightens and affirms malt character
  • Adds some body, but lighter roast means a higher percentage of fermentable sugars are carried to the wort
  • Imparts little color - slightly deeper golden

Practical Usage

C20 is the true "just a touch" of sweetness malt. Likely most applicable to particularly light beers, since more pronounced flavors will quickly overpower "subtle toffee and light caramel." Great to use to add a touch of body roundness and brightness to light, easy to drink styles while imparting little sweetness or color.
