597.0°LSimpsons Roasted Barley will deliver a roast-forward character with chocolate and dark coffee notes. Signature malt for stouts as it efficiently adds roast and black color.
Why of all the grains is this one unmalted? Roasting raw barley enables a clean, dry-roasted character. Being unmalted, it will not contribute sweetness or fermentables, and also not contributing to body (actually body-negative since it is very dry on its own). This is an effective product to get clean, dry, dark roast.
Why we love it:
- "I'm making a stout!"
- Adds deep color and roast character efficiently
- Excellent for balancing hop bitterness in dark beers

Simpsons Roasted Barley spec sheet
Simpsons is total barmy about barley! The majority of grains are sourced from Scotland and northern England. The primary malthouse in Berwick-upon-Tweed, which in old Anglo-Saxon means Barley Town, mostly supplies Scottish whiskey distilleries. Brewing malts are focused at the Tivetshall malthouse in Norfolk county, England.
