Fermentis SafAle BE-134 Belgian Saison Yeast
A classic diastatic Belgian saison strain. BE-134 produces the traditional dry, fruity, and spicy character that many people associate with authentic Belgian saisons and farmhouse ales. It’s more in the “old school” saison lane compared to the more controlled and modern Farmhouse strain.

Flavor & Behavior
BE-134 delivers the full classic saison experience — fruity esters, peppery spice, clove, and earthy notes. Because it’s diastatic, it has the enzymes to break down more complex sugars, which usually leads to a very dry finish. It’s more assertive and rustic than many modern hybrid saison strains.
In Practice
This is the more traditional saison option in the lineup. If you want that authentic dry, spicy, and slightly rustic saison character (and you’re comfortable working with a diastatic yeast), BE-134 is a strong choice. It tends to be more aggressive than Farmhouse, so it rewards recipes with enough malt backbone and good fermentation management. Many brewers like it when they’re chasing that classic Belgian saison dryness and spice.
Pitching & Rehydration
One 11g sachet does a standard 5 gallon batch around 1.050 OG. Rehydrate in 86–95°F water for 15–30 minutes before pitching. With diastatic strains like this, a healthy pitch rate and good temperature control help keep fermentation moving cleanly and the character balanced rather than harsh.
