Practical Use

Columbus is a true dual-purpose hop - excellent for both bittering and aroma. Late additions bring spicy and herbal notes. It shines in bigger, bolder beers where more delicate hops tend to disappear.

Dry hopping rates have increased in recent years. 2–4 oz total in 5 gallons is a common range for solid impact. Some people push higher in very hop-forward beers, but it can get quite dank and resinous quickly.

Best for: Bittering, late boil, whirlpool, and dry hopping. Brew day tip: Use early in the boil for clean bitterness, or late/whirlpool/dry hop if you want the spicy and herbal character to come through. Plays well with Chinook, Simcoe, and Citra.
